What will you get in The Expert's Writing Toolkit?
Success in writing at work is defined by your reader’s response to the message you deliver. A satisfied audience means you are respected and your expertise is trusted. In particular, you succeed as a writer when your readers
- get what they need
- find what they need easily
- understand what they find easily
- are satisfied along with other stakeholders
That list paraphrases the four principles described in the international standard, ISO 24495-1:2023. This course is organized around these "plain language" principles.
I know some experts perceive “plain” language as undesirable or even an offensive idea. For now, I ask you to suspend that belief. I am willing to bet that, after the course, you will see that the plain language approach results in success as an expert at work.
- The good news: I have helped thousands of professionals improve their written communication skills. I can help you, too.
- The less good news: Writing is a behavior, and behavior is difficult to change. It requires sustained effort, which requires commitment.
- The best news: What you learn today can be applied to communicating your expertise more efficiently and with greater success tomorrow.
